Prosecutors will not appeal Hussain-acquittal – Aftenposten

– I note that freedom of expression has now been given a final legal clarification in Norway in this field and that we allow people to think what they want rather than cage them because we do not like what they say, says Hussain’s lawyer, John Christian Elden, told Dagbladet.

Hailed terrorist acts

It was in 2013 during the period between 20 January and 3 . November that Hussain on his Facebook profile hailed four terrorist acts.

These included the glorification of attacks against the Boston Marathon and Statoil facility in In Amenas in Algeria.

He was for this prosecuted for incitement to terror, but was acquitted in the Oslo City Court in October last year.

Calculated as fundamentally important

Prosecutors decided to appeal. The Court of Appeal heard the case last month and gave Hussain upheld.

The case was regarded as fundamentally important and it was therefore expected that it would go until the Supreme Court, but the prosecutor has now therefore decided not to appeal the acquittal.

The high court in acquittal emphasis on how politicians have formed the law:

“If utterances with such content should be punishable, according to the Court of Appeal that this requires clearer voice of the legislature,” said in the judgment of the Court of Appeal last month. (© NTB)
