Snow in the mountains, nedgnagde graze and a cold spring corrodes fôrbeholdningen to sheep farmers and meat producers.

The low temperatures mean that it grows poorly, and farmers typically rely on having animals on cultivated pastures, must instead serve the animals silage, which in turn may mean that they have to buy extra feed next winter, newspaper Bergens Tidende.

An alternative is to let sheep graze on what really should go harvested in the first mowing. It could lead to an additional financial burden.

– Those who run livestock and meat production has not so easy these days. Many animals in the stall causes severe drain on feed and leads to additional costs.

– Here in Nordhordland there are many farms with flat hay meadows and cultivated pastures. Now it looks bleak for many of them, says Director Frøydis Haugen Hordaland Bondelag. She is supported by several of its local chapter leaders.

– It is extremely. Spring and pasture conditions are roughly month late here. That’s as far as we can make out the green color, says Trond Olav Neteland in Vossestrand Bondelag.

Now we hope that a change in the weather Haugen could make the situation easier.

– First of dry weather and good temperatures. We must have at least one continuous week with such weather before it makes a difference.
