Skull Found in Bergen: – The teeth were worn down – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): After walkers yesterday found a skull on Kyrkje Tangen on Bønes in Bergen, speculated Bergen newspapers today about the discovery could be linked to various well-publicized savnet- and murder investigations.

Likfunnet proved to be the answer to a missing puzzle. At least not new: Head turned out to belong to a woman who died during the Middle Ages.

– The teeth were worn down. There was nothing to indicate that they were treated in any way, and there was no hole. This is typical of the Middle Ages and earlier, says Stian Soups Berger Hamre, biological anthropologist and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bergen.

He was today called Gades instiutt, to assist in resolving skull mystery. Ages lasted for 1000 years, from about the year 500.

Hamre said that it is not unusual that a skull hold up well for so long.

– A skeleton can remain in good condition for thousands of years if it is in the right place, he said.

He believes the skull will end up at Bergen Museum.
