Grandpa died, grandchildren survived båtforlis – Dagbladet.no

A man in his late 60s died when a fishing boat sank off Rost in Lofoten Monday morning.

The man’s grandson survived the accident.

19-year-old and his grandfather were fishing when the accident occurred, said operations manager Ivar Bo Nilsson in Salten Police District. There were no other people on board.

– They had a lot of fish, and they met rough seas. That led to the load shifted up, which probably contributed to the boat capsized, says Nilsson.

JRCC was notified about the incident at 11:37, and a Sea King helicopter and rescue boat involved in the rescue.

There were reports of two meters high waves in the area and winds of ten meters per second.
