Grandfather died after shipwreck off Røst – Avisa Nordland

The clock 11:37 Monday got JRCC Northern Norway message that a smack had capsized southeast of Rost. Fishingboat was domiciled at Rost.

– There were two people on board. One person was rescued by a boat in the area, and one person died, says reporter Irene R. Skaue in JRCC to an.no.

The Sea King and redningssløyta “Skomvær III” was sent to instead. Both returned when the rescue was completed at 13 o’clock.

There are 10 m / s wind and two meter high waves in the area where smack capsized and sank.

– The person who was rescued must be in good physical shape. He was taken care of by a boat in the area. There should be no need for medical treatment, says Skaue.

The person who died is not found.

After that an.no gets illuminated from multiple sources was a grandfather and his grandson who was out in the 28-foot fishing boat which sank on the inner side of the Voice, specifically on Line Sea. It was his grandfather, who was in her late 60s, who died in the accident, while granddaughter 20s were saved.

Voice Mayor Tor Arne Andreassen confirms this.

– It all went very fast. Grandfather went down in the cabin to retrieve rescue equipment. But then went down with the boat end first. Granddaughter sitting on the bow when he was rescued by another boat. And he witnessed his grandfather went down, said the mayor who has received this information from the family.

– This is tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the bereaved. All of us who live on this small island community is characterized by this event, says Rost mayor Tor Arne Andreassen.

He explains that they put in place emergency team shortly after the accident.

– We have been in contact with family, Andreassen says.

He says granddaughter of course marked by the incident, but that he is in fine physical shape.

According to sources was grandfather and granddaughter out on line fishing for cod in winter Line Sea.

– Both were experienced fishermen. They have fished a lot in layers, said a source on the island.
