Customs officials may have made the biggest fish seizures – Romsdals Budstikke

The seizure was made at the customs office at Bjørnfjell near Narvik night to Easter eve, NRK reported. 2.2 tons of cod, haddock and halibut were found in the van they were driving.

– I have worked in Customs and Excise for 23 years and can not remember having heard of such a large single seizure. It is perhaps the largest single seizure in Norway, says media consultant Thore Simenstad Customs and Excise.

In comparison seized publicans 5.5 tons of fish in Norway throughout 2014.

Fish smugglers tried to abscond, but were overtaken about one mile into Sweden. The load was distributed on 50 crates, and Acting believes it is difficult to estimate what the sales value may have been.

– If it were resold, one can only speculate on. But it’s not often you have 2200 kg of fish in the freezer, says operations Tom Johanessen in Middle Hålogaland police.

The Lithuanians are fined 20,000 kroner, and the sneaky load is destroyed.
