Brother: – Mullah Krekar considering traveling to Kurdistan – Aftenposten

– He is considering returning to Kurdistan if he will not be prosecuted there, shall Krekar’s brother, Khalid Ranjdar, have said it Krekar friendly website Dorbeen just before Christmas.

Several Kurdish media has in recent weeks written about the negotiations between the Kurdish authorities and Ranjdar. The brother should have conducted several meetings with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the largest party in the Kurdish areas of northern Iraq.

– This is not something I know about. I am in regular contact with the family, and expect that they will inform me of this, if they believe that this is something I’ve dealt with, says Brynjar Meling, which is His lawyer.

Organizer measures release

Mullah Krekar was in March 2012 was sentenced to five years in prison for threats against Erna Solberg and three Kurds. The verdict was later appealed and turned into prison for two years and ten months. In less than three weeks have Krekar atoned finished, and no later than Sunday 25 January he releases Kongsvinger prison.

– Will Mullah Krekar could walk freely on Karl Johans gate in three weeks?

– I do not wish to comment. There currently in progress around how to deal with the release of short and long term. But I do not want to go into details of these measures at the present time, said State Secretary Joran Kallemyr (FRP) in Ministry of Justice.

Both immigration authorities and the Police Security Service, according to the Secretary of State to be involved in efforts to find out how the government should handle release. Kallemyr does not want to answer whether Norwegian authorities are in dialogue with the Kurdish authorities about an eventual expulsion of Krekar from Norway, or if they know of his brother’s negotiations in Kurdistan.

Risking death penalty

Norwegian authorities have several times previously tried to expel Krekar from Norway. Aftenposten has previously revealed that the then State Secretary Pål K. Lønseth (Ap) was in Baghdad in February 2013, to try to get guarantees from the Iraqi authorities that Krekar should not be subjected to torture or the death penalty if he was sent there.

Also Foreign Minister Brende have repeated this question in Iraq, most recently in August. Time and again, the Iraqi government said that they simply can not guarantee this. They say on the contrary that Krekar will be prosecuted for terrorism, and that terrorists are executed in Iraq.

Norwegian authorities option then was to try to expel Krekar to Kurdistan, because they assumed that it would be easier to get a guarantee against torture and the death penalty there. There shall be such negotiations Krekar brother has now taken a step further with the Kurdish authorities.

Ranje concede to Kurdish media that Krekar return to Kurdistan will not be easy, especially since there are many political parties who do not want him back. Latif Shaikh Omer, a spokesman for the party Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), makes it clear that Krekar and all other called must be held responsible in the legal system.

– It is not up to a political party to forgive him crimes he has done, says Omer.

Counting down to release

On the website Dorbeen, which in Kurdish media described as jihadist counts Krekar followers down to release with a special countdown. The website has over 120,000 followers on Facebook, and experts characterize it as a central part of Krekar’s network. The website has been a key element during proceedings against him.

– This is a Kurdish website with a clear Islamic profile for devout Muslims from Kurdistan. Is there a thing of the Norwegian people can be confident, then it is that this website is under constant surveillance of international security services, says Meling.

– Is this site jihadist?

– What the Kurdish media loading jihadist, I do not. But Krekar has probably never made a secret of his religious and political views, and there may be others add other things than what he does, says Meling.

During his imprisonment has Krekar been subject to stringent visitor control, according to the lawyer .

– He has no affiliation to the website now, while he is in prison. Possibilities his to communicate with the outside world has been very limited, if at all possible, says Meling.

Have written books in cell

– While he was inside, has Krekar written several books with theological theme. I have the impression that there is a comprehensive work, says Meling.

– What to do Krekar when he drops out?

– He will return to its usual situation, with research and teaching. The books he has written, will be published via the channels he has used for years.

Despite the court acquitted Krekar terror accusations, he is still listed on the UN list of people associated terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.

– It has no criminal consequences to stand on this list. I emphasize that Krekar is acquitted of terror in Norway, and therefore take this with stoically says Meling.
