Potential death traps

– We see that the illegal workshops have unskilled labor, they lack the necessary tools, have bad premises and carry out repairs that may be trafikkfarlige.

We have seen several examples where cars have been repaired by people with total lack of bilfaglig skills, ” says Røysum.

Many of the illegal workshops are also related to social dumping and the black money. Bilbransjeforbundet estimates that the black workshop labour constitutes a value of around three billion each year.

What is illegal workshops?

National action

The nationwide action has been a collaboration in A-krimgruppen, which consists of several actors, among them the Norwegian public roads administration, the Norwegian labour Inspection authority, the tax office located, Kemner, and the Police.

– we Are in this together so if we can manage to frame this business much harder, and in a way to take “the root”. Therefore, it is important for us to have a good cooperation with other agencies and with the industry, ” says Røysum.

He points out that it is important that the workshops meet the requirements for equipment, expertise and facilities.

– It is also important that the public choose a workshop which is approved by the Norwegian public roads administration. This is to avoid people running around in trafikkfarlige cars at the same time as they are in the good faith belief that it is the opposite, ” says Røysum.
