– I have got a detailed account of the follow-up of Goliath, from the construction period in 2008 and up to now. It has been a thorough and close monitoring, also by the management of the operating company Eni, which I am reassured. PSA has also assured me that they have the regulations required, and the instruments they need to lead a proper supervision, says Hauglie- after the meeting.

Criticism

Under construction Goliat platform in South Korea died wood workers. The project has been characterized by delays and budget overrun, and only since its inception in April it reported 12 incidents and come several expressing concern. Several unions, including Industry Energy, managers and safe, have argued that the audit did not follow up offshore safety good enough.

– The question forces itself forward: Do we use PSA as they are now? We no longer have confidence in them, said organization secretary Owe Waltherzøe in Safe NTB before the meeting.

After the meeting, is the conclusion that everything is in perfect order:

– We have a good regulations, and Toolbox our large enough, says Myhrvold said.

She said most projects have a number of challenges in the start, but admits that Goliath has been different than what they see otherwise:

– there are factors here which is more serious, that’s why we have used the tools to give orders.

sure startup

on Friday August 26 caused power outages to evacuation Goliat. Eni received orders from PSA which must be complied with before production can resume. Neither the minister or Myhrvold can say when it will happen:

– I assume that Eni does not start up production again before they can assure you that the operation will be securely and that security is safeguarded. I also assume that employees be taken, and that it ensured good participation among employees, says Hauglie-.

Asked whether she believes Eni taking good enough care of safety, avoids Hauglie- to answer directly:

– It is the operator’s responsibility to take responsibility for safety of production. Now supervision given several orders, which I assume are followed up.

Cost

Another topic at the meeting was about the big cost cuts in the industry at the expense of offshore safety. Also there was Hauglie- reassured. Myhrvold says PSA is concerned about security must be safeguarded – anyway:

– We believe it is possible to both become more efficient and improve safety. We are clear in our supervision to see if the cuts have a negative impact and work with that safety is high on the agenda, she said.

Vice president Wulff Eni has previously stressed that the company is taking the situation on Goliath on seriously:

– We have initiated an internal working group with safety representatives and union representatives and management to strengthen internal security culture and communication between management and employees.
