Therefore, all 75-year olds get a home visit by the municipality – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): – Finally something new happens in elderly care, says Bent Høie and talking about their own actions.

Health Minister today presented what he calls a package of new elderly care policy under the Conservative’s central board meeting.

– It’s not a an election promise, they have been plentiful. This is a package which is now conducted, says Bent Høie.

The package consists of several measures Right got through in Parliament this week. In addition, he introduced several new measures.

Home visits by 75-year-olds

– Monday we send out circulars to local authorities to introduce preventive home visits for the elderly, says Høie.

All 75- olds will now be visited by the municipality.

According Høie they should look for the adaptations, drills or assistive technology as needed for older people to live longer in their own homes.

– The municipality may choose another age on they want, but I believe most people will choose 75-year-olds. We are talking about everyday rehabilitation, some adaptations in the home, or a few hours of training. The help people need to be healthy and stay at home longer, says Høie who thinks it is sensible prioritization of funds.

– We see in municipalities that have tried some of those who are called up first are offended because they do not think they need this. So calling many up again once they have reflected upon it. In the long term municipalities save money on this, that the elderly can stay at home longer, he says.

Much medication error

The government will also establish a requirement standards for the drug review in a nursing home.

– A person who lives in a nursing home spend an average of seven drugs. Every third nursing home resident uses a drug they should use. It can have dramatic consequences, says Høie Dagbladet.

He points out that some older attending doctor, hospitals and nursing homes where they are on short-term stays.

– All these places they get maybe discharged medicines without it being any connection. Now everyone must get a review when they arrive at a nursing home. The municipalities that have tried it have good results. The math comes out in the black by the municipality saves money that goes to medicines, and the elderly get better life, he says.

New bill for consultation

The most comprehensive measure Høie presented today is an amendment bill the government sends to the hearing tomorrow. It means that it will be required that all municipalities from 2018 should have your doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, midwife and nurse. From 2020 it will be claims for occupational therapist, psychologist and dentist.

– There is a clear signal that we requires the skills they should have in the municipalities.

Earlier this week it emerged that there is a majority in Parliament to legislate the right of beds nursing care, and demand for a police employee in health – care sector.

– The key is that we take a stronger national responsibility for the quality and capacity of the elderly. Until now it has been far too random which quality and help municipalities provide. Here goes a political distinction. Labor voted against including a statutory right to full-day place in nurturing and caring and removed the competence requirements of the municipality, says Høie.
