Suspicious deaths in tubes in Bjørvika was an accident – Osloby

It is the Oslo police’s preliminary conclusion after just over two weeks’ investigation.

– On the basis of the findings was made in conjunction with an autopsy, as well as the rest of the investigation, we believe that we can conclude that the death was due to an accident, says Stein Olav Bredli, head of violence section of the Oslo police told Aftenposten.

the discovery of the man was long classified as a suspicious death.

– We have made technical investigations, and made witnesses of persons with different connection with the case. We also had a dialogue with the Swedish police. The sum of what we have managed to fin out, we believe that this was an accident, says Bredli.

Found construction works

The police also worked from the theory that man Bredli previously said.

– I do not want to go into detail about what makes us conclude that this was an accident. The relatives are informed of the cause of death, saying Bredli.

The preliminary autopsy report, which was ready for a half weeks ago, gave no clear answer about the cause of death.

The deceased lay a long way down the tube, which has a diameter of about 70 centimeters. The tube remained in the foundation for the new Munch Museum in Bjørvika, and was difficult to access for crews attempting to retrieve the body.

The construction site has been cordoned off to the public.

It was a construction work in Bjørvika who found the man and alerted authorities on Thursday 21 April.

Swedish 30s

the deceased was found more or less without clothes, and without ID.

the man’s identity was unknown for several days. Only after nearly a week of investigation, the police identify the man as a Swedish citizen in the 30s.

The man was not officially missing, but people in the Swede’s entourage had missed him.

– police received tips from his acquaintances, and could on this basis, determine male identity, has Bredli previously said.

Lived in Norway

the man lived in Norway during the period before death.

– he had to stay in Norway, but whether he had signed relocation I am unsure, say Bredli.

There are still steps in the investigation but police consider that they are in the final stages.

– There remains some questioning work and some answers on laboratory tests and the final autopsy report, before the police could consider the matter closed, says Bredli.

When the police made their final assessment, sent the case to prosecutors for final determination of the case.
