Federation requires reopened hotel needs closing – Dagbladet.no

Radisson Blu Scandinavia in Oslo, formerly called SAS hotel, closed its doors the day after the strike in the hospitality industry began. Ascension ensured unionized employees and managers that certain operations could be resumed. This led to a confrontation between striking workers and guards.

– We did the best we could to take care of our guests. We had to call the police so they could get free traffic, says District Director of hotel group Carlson Rezidor Tarje Hellebust, said.

– It’s just nonsense. When police arrived, they asked us not to prevent public traffic, not blocking emergency exits and behave properly. Otherwise, they wanted us good strike, says the leader of Fellesforbundet branch 10 in Oslo, Tore Aune Skjelstad.

– Meet gladly

Hellebust will take the matter up with Fellesforbundet union representatives.

– We will have a meeting with workers’ representative as soon as she is available. Then we protest that it was actually physically scuffles Thursday, he said.

– We are happy to meet with them, and then there’s one topic on the agenda. It is the closing of the hotel, and that it should continue to be closed, says the leader of Fellesforbundet branch 10 in Oslo, Tore Skjelstad Aune.

Federation believes it is strikebreaking when the hotel now has partially reopened. It is not Hellebust agree.

– We have the law and the right to keep what we can up. We have a responsibility for our unionized employees as well, and a responsibility for the guests. We do not strike breakers, says Hellebust.

He is supported by Norwegian Hospitality Association’s chief negotiator, Jostein Hansen.

– We think this was special. It is an illegal action. They prevent deliveries, and they stop guests from entering. We consider the matter, he said.

Quiet conditions

Communications Vidar Grønli in Federation says that the situation of the hotel is between the union representatives and property.

– I do not know details of the case, but we see that there occasionally comes issues that are difficult to handle for people. There is much emotion involved, but we want the least amount of noise surrounding the strike, saying Grønli.

– We encourage our people to not let themselves provoke. We have received reports of some episodes around the country, but it is mostly quiet, he continued.
