Emergency accommodation of asylum seekers has cost more than a half billion – NRK

– This was a solution that was available in the situation that arose, and was not a concept we had planned in advance. We did not know it would take off like it did, summarizes Director Christine Wilberg in UDI’s regional and receiving dock to Aftenposten.

The cost of emergency accommodation will approach 1.6 billion on 30 June, when last sleeping agreement expires, the newspaper’s list.

When the UDI in the period from August 31 last year to 30 June this year have hired 19,308 beds in campsites, conference centers and hotels.

at 120 properties around country it is paid for a total of over 2 million overnight stays, where prices range from 387 million to 1.000 million.

in addition, there was 81 million in hotel expenses for unregistered asylum seekers who had to wait for registration at the Police Immigration Service (PU ) in Toyen.

Watching understood that there would be more asylum seekers than fluctuations one had experienced before, began UDI to make direct purchases of additional places at existing reception. But already in late August, transit centers fullest.

– To create a reception center takes time. Therefore we started to contact sites that were already established as accommodation or were prepared for it, says Wilberg.
