Ulf Leirstein (FRP) – Sami country can pay for the Sami Parliament – NRK

On Saturday the Sami people’s National Day, a day that has been celebrated every day since 1993. And on this anniversary got parliament Ulf Leirstein (FRP) social media to boil after this tweet:

“Sami National … did not that Sami had their own country. Then surely the country pay for the Sami Parliament, support to Sami culture etc. ‘

Thousands have responded to the initiative of the parliamentary representative from Moss and emphasized the difference between nation and state.

– Bullying and harassment

Plenary Director Jørn are Gaski in the Sami Parliament seem initiative is hurtful and put a damper on the celebration:

– This is bullying and harassment of ethnic group that has been subjected to a hard Norwegianization policy. It is serious that it comes from the representative of a government party, which will lay down the Sami Parliament and weaken the Sami language and culture.

Plenary manager points out that the Sami people have gained more understanding and support in Norway for the past 20 years, but that much has changed with Right-FRP government over the past two years.

– There have been many cuts that have hit the Sami language and culture. Now we have no other choice but to fight on for our existence, as part of the kingdom’s heritage, he said.

– Not National Day

Leirstein says he has an opportunity to ask for an interview, but writes in an SMS to NRK that he reacts to that designation Sami National Day is used.

– I reacted to that one on NRK yesterday used the term Sami National Day. It is Sami’s Day. Therefore I sent a tweet. This is also a familiar debate, which also NRK has spoken on several occasions. Beyond that I have no comments, write Leirstein in an SMS.

Parliament Helge André Njåstad (FRP), Municipal Committee, says to NRK that FRP is accepting that the Sami should have its own parliament in addition to Parliament.

– We congratulate Sami birthday, Sami has an important significance for Norway. But FRP is accepting that they should have its own parliament, in addition to Parliament.

– But while there is no majority for it, we want a good partnership, says Njåstad.

– Leirstein want to provoke

Members Henrik Olsen in Sami parliamentary Council believes that “Leirstein want to provoke” and say they want to ignore such claims.

– But it is unworthy of a white politician to believe this when Sami and Norwegians celebrate this day together, says Olsen continues:

– Leirstein misunderstand nation concept. The Sami are a nation by virtue of being a distinct people. That does not mean one has a separate nation. We are part of Norway and contribute on an equal footing with Norwegians.

– Old rehash of reluctance Sami

the Sami Parliament’s first president and a former professor of the Sami language, Ole Henrik Magga (68), said that the initiative is yet another example of “old rehash of reluctance Sami.”

– I’m disappointed but not particularly surprised. It is not new that such attitudes come from a FRP representative. Much has changed in Norway over the last 25-30 years, but unfortunately is not such attitudes away with one flick, says Magge adding:

– Leirstein should familiarize themselves with the history and examine background concepts he uses. It can help on. But luckily hear his attitude towards exceptions today.
