Treholt about Torgersen: – There is great respect for his courage – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): June 18 death convicted murderer Fredrik Fasting Torgersen eighty years, and Thursday afternoon he was buried in Vålerenga church in Oslo.

Family, friends and supporters were in place to honor the man who ever since he was sentenced to life imprisonment and ten years’ detention in 1958, claiming he was wrongly convicted.

After the ceremony went several of his supporters in the pub Galgeberg Corner to take a funeral in his spirit.

Among them was Arne Treholt. He wanted to honor a man he had great respect for.

– Torgersen case’ve followed all of my generation almost a lifetime, says Treholt Dagbladet.

Greater respect for Torgersen

Treholt hit Torgersen once a legal seminar in Bergen few years back, and they soon found the tone.

– When we sat together over dinner and talked for several hours, said Treholt, who are happy today for he got to meet Torgersen.

– I have always been impressed with his ability to continue to stand on. He fought for what he believed and felt was an unfair judgment. He did so until the very end, and it says it great respect, says Treholt coming down from the mound where Vålerenga Church enthroned, surrounded by colorful wooden houses.

– Fin farewell

Treholt, who lives in Cyprus, was glad he had the opportunity to meet up at Vålerenga Thursday.

– It was a nice farewell with him, and it was painted a very pretty picture of him. An image I had of him himself, says Treholt, as 20th January 1984 was arrested, charged with espionage in favor of the former Soviet Union.

Later he was sentenced to 20 years in prison but was pardoned and released after nine years. The storms continued around the case, and as recently as last year were secret documents released by PST.

Among other things it emerges of these documents that a Norwegian agent dressed up as Treholt in KGB meeting.

– You’re also a person who can put yourself into his situation ?

– Yes, but that’s not what I think about today. The most important thing for me today was to show a person that I have the greatest respect for, the last honor I could give him, says Treholt.



Grav-beer in his spirit

The pub Galgeberg Corner, just down hawks, a group gathered to honor Torgersen with a funeral in his spirit.

– The was a worthy farewell. It was great to see the coffin being carried out, and magpie which flew and sat on the church roof. He knew the all the birds, especially pigeons in this part of town, says Per Ståle Payday known from extensive experience in NRK and TV 2

He sits with actor Peter Lindbæk, journalist Geir Solaas Moen and Arne Treholt the haunt of Torgersen in the hot sun. While reminiscing over Torgersen, sticking also minister Einar Gelius by to chat.

– It may not have been him. If one has bitten someone in the chest, so files can not be their teeth! says Payday, which refers to the main evidence in the Torgersen case.

– Ate ginger

Einar Gelius met Torgersen several times in the neighborhood of Vålerenga.

– We sat here once, and when he said he ate fresh ginger every day to stay healthy. Now I’m doing well, says Gelius.

He says that Torgersen was stuck in the environment at Vålerenga, and that he often fed the pigeons in the area.
