Now Hurtigruten set world record – Nordlys

He has sailed the equivalent almost ten round trips to the moon.

MS Lofoten is the smallest ship Hurtigruten, but is considered by many as the jewel in the fleet.

The ship, which was christened and launched on 7 September 1963 has now set a remarkable world record.

At 14.59 last Saturday had MS Lofoten passed namely 300,000 hours at sea.

In good hold

– Many people like it done the old way. The engine should be heard, it should be sailed without stabilizers and drop slightly through Vestfjord, says Lillebo.

* The engine is a syvsylindret Burmeister & amp; Wain, built under license by Akers Mechanical Workshop in 1963.

* This is a crosshead engine with type designation B & amp; W DM 742 VT2BF-90.

* The engine is totally 6.3 meters high and weighs 115 tons.

* Cylinder volume is 872 liters. Normal rotation rate is 200 per minute.

* This allows MS Lofoten can go with a top speed of 15 knots.
