Some of the animals died of poisoning, while others were killed, said the FSA on Wednesday.
The battery landed probably the premixer last week and was discovered by the farmer when he found plastic residues from the battery feed. During the following days the animals were sick.
– This is a serious matter from an animal welfare perspective. We are currently working to find out what has happened. Mattilsynet are interested in the health and animal welfare in the rest of the crew, said department Bente Fauske FSA.
When the farmer discovered what had happened, he notified Tines dairy in Brumunddal, where he same week had delivered more than 6,000 liters of milk.
Both distribution and production was halted, but analysis shows that none of the dairy products contained lead above limit, said the FSA. (© NTB)
