Ludvigsen Committee should prioritized more clearly between goals for Norwegian school – Aftenposten

Aesthetic subjects being abandoned in schools. A minority of younger teachers who teach arts and crafts, has a vocational training went up by a report in Aftenposten Monday.

Practical arts has been on the wane after the PISA surveys showed that Norwegian pupils have poor basic skills in basic subjects such as math, reading and science.

The committee will work at once

Ludvigsen Committee will strengthen the practical and aesthetic subjects. It is a clear sign that the PISA test the premise power in the Norwegian school is in the process weaken?

Hardly. The Commission will strengthen mathematics too. In light of increased globalization and an internationalized labor recommended an upgrade of language subjects. Technological development is leaving its mark everywhere, and digital literacy must be reflected in all subjects.

In addition promises Committee has three major, interdisciplinary topics that must be clear in the curriculum: Sustainable Development, the multicultural society and public health, and life skills .

Forward for all schools must place greater emphasis on depth learning. The committee also believes that school better than today need to ensure that students get an awareness of the learning process

Bra with fewer goals in the curricula

Committee Chairman Sten Ludvigsen has previously noted that the school suffer from substance tribulation. Therefore, it is surprising that the report did not clearly point out what the school can do less of. That would give sandwiches list of good intentions more weight. The committee aims to avoid technical fragmentation would have more credibility.

Some good proposals are given. The curricula should operate with fewer goals. A clearer progression between steps in the curriculum will make it easier to follow up on students over time.

The implementation is too weak

Many school reforms have lived and died in the triangle between the Parliament – Ministry of Education – Directorate of Education without reaching the school itself. Also the implementation of the Knowledge have been insufficient.

It is therefore good that Ludvigsen Committee stresses the need for a clear and comprehensive strategy of introducing new curricula. This can not be on the individual municipality.

The committee will also have praise for it so clearly advocates a long-term commitment to teacher competence and professionalism. Committee recommendation fewer learning objectives and multiple choices will increase the importance of teachers further.
