Norwegian media have zero VAT – Sunnmørsposten

The newspapers are momsfri, newspaper VG reports. It has culture minister Thorhild Widvey (H) and Finance Minister Siv Jensen (FRP) determined.

Printed newspapers are screened for VAT collection, but when the media publish news online, the state requires 25 percent VAT by user payment.

– The media are in the midst of tough competition from abroad, and the government wants to help them in this transition, says Minister of Culture to VG.

It is still possible that EEA Surveillance Authority says no to tax exemptions.

Acquisition

Culture Thorhild Widvey will also repeal the Media Ownership Act which set limits on how much a media group can own in Norwegian media, NTB reported.

Today’s media ownership have clear limits on how much a company can own of Norwegian media. The border runs on 33 percent of the national newspaper circulation. If this is changed, it may for example mean that Schibsted is allowed to buy up Polaris Group.
