Norwegian pilots acutely ill: – Twice as many as on a normal Sunday – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): At least eight English-flights are currently canceled and more delayed. English hit hard by the 70 pilots as of yesterday was taken out on strike. Meanwhile the company is experiencing an unusually high absenteeism among pilots just today.

– We have had several cases of acute illness in the pilot corps. Sick leave is twice as high as in a regular Sunday, said information officer Lasse Sandakerveien-Nielsen in Norwegian daily Dagens Næringsliv.

English do not want to speculate about absenteeism today perceived as an action from the pilots side as a result of the strike. Arve Sigmundstad, communications manager of Parat, which organizes 685 pilots in English, denies that there is talk of an organized action, and that they do not know the unusual absence.

Domestic and Scandinavia

Morning flight from Heathrow to Copenhagen is canceled. The same is both dagavgangene from Oslo to Kristiansand, including the return. Also afternoon planes from Oslo to Stavanger and Bergen, evening departure to Bergen, and both too late, departures from Bergen to Oslo is set, type NTB.

Two departures from Copenhagen and Stockholm is also set, while one departure from Gothenburg preliminary is canceled.

– We have unfortunately some cancellations today due to the strike. We try to operate as many planes as possible. Affected passengers on these routes have been notified and will be rebooked to the next flight, said Astrid Mannion, Communications in English, Dagbladet earlier today.

– The the flights that are now affected are canceled because they really should be operated by pilots who are now on strike, she said.

It is Norwegian Air Norway and their pilots strikes. Therefore, it is domestic flights and flights within Scandinavia hardest hit. Nore Gian is still determined to get passengers where they are going.

– Our goal is to get passengers where they are going. Many of the passengers who have received the flights canceled, are booked for this next flight, she says.

70 Norwegian pilots were from yesterday out on strike. Wednesday escalate strike sharply, and then all the 650 Norwegian pilots be taken out on strike.

Employee Organization Parat raged yesterday over Norwegian plans to hire other pilots to flights and the accused airlines for strikebreaking, and believe the practice their objectionable.

– This is clearly not strikebreaking, said CEO of Norwegian, Bjørn Kjos, at a press conference in the company’s headquarters at Fornebu.

It is thus full klinsj between union and pilot association and Bjorn Kjos, and there is nothing to indicate that the parties will reach an agreement soon.
