Monday afternoon sent Telenor announced today that President and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas withdraws from Vimpelcom board with immediate effect. Vimpelcom is under investigation for corruption in connection with the establishment in Uzbekistan.
– This is a grip to resolve the conflict of interest Baksaas had with his role in Vimpelcom Board. He would rather focus on the job as a shareholder, said spokesman Glenn Mandelid Telenor.
– Why does he do this now?
– It is clear the decision is been accelerated by the corruption case. It was crucial that he sat on the board during the creation of Vimpelcom Ltd., but the situation is different now, says Mandelid.
