Man dragged into the sea in Haugesund – Aftenbladet.no

Wednesday afternoon it was launched a large search party for a man of 32 years from Lithuania who was dragged into the sea north of Haugesund. Clock 1930 police officials that the rescue operation is called off without discovery.

Wednesday around 15 o’clock was than man dragged into the sea by Bogshamn north of Haugesund. The man was with another man from Lithuania, possibly a fellow worker.

– We assume that he also should have been at sea, he was certainly wet, says operations in Haugaland- and Sunnhordaland Police Trond Friberg.

It took two hours before the police were informed about the accident, and Friberg is unsure why.

– The man who the missing were with took back to Haugesund and got alerted police using of some acquaintances. This may be because he did not have access to mobile phone, says Friberg.

He says that the police have a hard time understanding the man who was with missing because of language problems.



Poor visibility

Both the Sea King rescue helicopter, rescue boat Bergen cred, police, divers from the fire department and ambulance were sent to the area slightly above the clock 17. Exploration conditions was designated as very difficult.

– The weather is also so bad that it is not possible to implement strandsøk or sending down divers, said Friberg when search was still in progress.

Rough seas with waves up to four meters and strong winds made rescue crews hardly saw any thing. They gave up the search for well over two hours.

– Ports on the sea around 15 o’clock, at this temperature and this weather, it had probably not been life in you at 19:30, says Friberg.

The hope is that he has come up on the land somewhere else.

Should look at the weather

Friberg says that men from Lithuania possibly have been at sea to watch the storm.

– I do not think men were so well acquainted with nature and the weather in Norway, says Friberg.

He confirmed also that those involved live in Norway.
