Ignition fluid may provide chemical pneumonia – NRK

Although it may not feel quite like this, so is summer hopefully soon here. That means the peak season for barbecues, house paint and terrace washing. Thus, it is also the peak season for senior advisor Mette Ekeland and her colleagues in Poison.

– It may be all right to be a little aware of the things that are labeled as corrosive, that one is extra cautious with them so that they are not accessible to children. Perhaps one can also clear away spark liquid after you have grilled, says Kloosterman.

Can get over the airways

Poison is the national advisory and expertise device regarding acute poisoning and poisoning hazard. In other words, the people you call if you fear that you yourself, or someone you know, has ingested something toxic.

One of the regulars are children who have been drinking lighter fluid, and Kloosterman explains that there is not necessarily any means that it is tamper cap.

– I have sometimes a little feeling that the adults think it is hard and the kids get it, but that’s probably because it is the calls we get.

And if an accident are out, and the little son or daughter has taken a sip, it may at worst be quite severe.

– What can happen is that it comes across in the airways. Especially if one gets sick and vomits increased risk that it could happen, if one has taken a good sip. Down in the lungs, the body reacts very on the ignition fluid, and at worst it can be difficult to breathe. You get what we call a chemical pneumonia.

– Is there any particular cough we would like people to call us and check what to do.

– Do not pour over the soda bottles

Another liquid that pursuits much with at this time of year is the terrace. The different types of this is mostly corrosive.

– Where it happens that people get beyond the hands, they can get it in your eyes or in the worst case, that child also takes the bottle and tastes. It can be quite serious, but fortunately yesterday most accidents good, says Kloosterman.

She also has a clear invitation to let the various toxic fluids in the original packing his.

– This is to pour things over on soda bottles is something we are very concerned, and it applies throughout the year. It happens that the adults also wrong. They may not know what was on it either, and it makes it extra difficult.

PS! From 1 June, hazardous chemicals labeled with symbols that apply worldwide. These look like this:
